Josiah Bashford ( abt 1720 - 1808)

Josiah Bashford was most likely born Sussex or Kent, some time between 1720 and 1730. His parents are unknown, but there is record of a Josiah Bashford as is the child of Thomas Bashford and Ann Burtenshaw of Cuckfield who was apprenticed to a Samuel Parratt aged 11 in 1731.

Josiah married as Sarah (surname unknown), and they at least 4 child, three Boniface on 9 Octobert 1749 at Southease, Sussex. Sarah was baptised on 23 March 1721 in Edburton, Sussex one of six children of Henry Boniface and Sarah Davies

It appears that the couple had at least 5 children, three of whom grew to adulthood

  • Ann Bashford (b. ?? - d. Born ?. Died Dec 2 1751) - not confirmed as child by baptism record - burial record only
  • James Bashford (b. 1755 - ?)Born 1755. Died ?
  • Josiah Bashford (b. 1758 - d. 1758)Born 1758 Died 1758
  • Josiah Bashford (b. 1760 - d. 1835)  Born 1760 Died 1835 married Sarah Moone Oct 11 1784 Steyning, Sussex

Sarah died in Shoreham by Sea, Sussex in 1778. Whilst there is a death notice for Josiah at New Shoreham 1808.There is record of a marriage between Sarah Boniface and Josiah Bashford on Oct 9 1749 in Southease, Lewes, Sussex. Sarah was born in 1719 in Lewes Sussex and was the daughter of John Boniface and Mary Ashby. Whilst there is no firm evidence, this is the most likely candidate.
