My Philpot Family

The Mouser name is either an occupational name for a vermin controller, or more likely in the Middle Ages was a nickname. It is found primarily in the East Anglia, specifically Norfolk and Suffolkname Philpot is a patronymic name abbreviated from Phil(i)pot - a middle english pet form meaning "the son of philip". The name Philip originally comes from the Greek Philippos meaning to love (philein) horses (hippos). It is believed that the name was brought to England by the Normans in 1066. It is primarily found in the South Eastern areas of England.

Current research identifies the earliest known ancestor of our Mouser Philpot line as being William Mouser Samuel Philpott of Suffolk. Williams Samuels great great grand-daughter Lucy Mouser married son John Jessop who emigrated to Australia in 1838 after her death.
