James McFarlane (1805 - 1871)

James McFarlane was born in 1805 in Dull Perthshire. He was the fifth child and the fifth son of John McFarlane and Ann Stewart.

There is little known about the family, however on James

married Margaret Chisholm in

death certificate his father is noted as being a labourer.

James and Margaret spent the early part of their marriage in Dundee Angus, before moving to Auchterarder in Perth

The family were living on Main St in Auchterarder, Perthshire and James at 66 is noted as being plasterer with his wife Margaret and their 3 youngest sones Daniel 25 (Post Messenger) ; George E 22 (Carter) ; John 17 (Post Boy)

John migrates to Australia as a remittance immigrant - paid for by his sister and brother in law... He arrives aboard the Roxburgshire on 30 Jun 1876 - Aged 22. He died just over 12 months later in Ipswich

Daniel Mcfarlane married Priscilla Affleck in Sydney, New South Wales, on 20 February 1880 when he was 33 years old.

McFARLANE-AFFLECK.-February 20, 1880, at Sydney, by the Rev. Thomas Gainford, Daniel, second son of the late James McFarlane, plasterer, Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland,

and brother-in-law to James Bain, Baths, Ipswich, aged 23 years.

The Baronet of the grandtully estate at the time was was John Archibald Drummond-Stewart (18th of Grandtully , 6th Baronet) who was succeeded by his brother Capt Sir William Drummon Stewart of Grandtully and Murthly, They also held the lands of Grandtully, Kyltidich and Aberfaldie.
