The Stoddart name is and ancient one, heavily associated with the borders area of Scotland and Northumberland.  

Current research identifies our Stoddart line appears in Midlothian in the late 1700smid 1600s.  The the earliest known ancestor of our Stoddart line as being William Stoddart, however little is known of the family David Bowman Stoddard. It is his illegitimate daughter Janet (Jessie) Stoddart who emigrated to Australia with her husband William Hardie in 1879.
