My Cockburn Family
The Cockburn family is long associated with the Borders region of Scotland and noted as one of the Reiver Clans. You can find out more about the history and meaning of the Cockburn name.
Current research identifies our line of the Cockburn family first appearing in records in Midlothian in the mid 1700s. The earliest confirmed member of our Cockburn line is Alexander Cockburn. The first 'detailed' information is known about his son - my GGGG grandfather - More Carfrae Cockburn. It is his granddaughter - Lilias Cockburn who emigrated to Australia in 1883 with her husband George Hardie.
