Current research identifies our line of the McFarlanes as originating around Dull Perthshire in the early 1700s. The earliest known member of our McFarlane line is Patrick McFarlane. Patrick's great grand-daughter Elizabeth McPherson MacFarlane emigrated to Australia to join her husband James Bain in 1864,
