My Mansfield Family

The name Mansfield is a locational surname, deriving from a parish in Nottinghamshire, Mansfield, a market town that dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was listed as Mamesfelde, but archaeological digs indicate population back to the Roman times. The place name itself is a combination of Celtic and Anglo Saxon Terms and literally means "open land by the River Maun", or "field by the hill called Mam". Mam is the Celtic word for breast.

Current research identifies progenitor of our line of the Mansfield family as being William Mansfield about 1800 in Leicester. It is his daughter Sarah Starkey Mansfield who marries Thomas Fullelove and immigrates to Australia in 1863.
