William Mansfield (1770 - 1853)

William Mansfield was born in 1770 in Loughborough Leicestershire. He was baptised at All Saints in Loughborough on Jan 12 1770 . He was the third child and third son of Richard Mansfield and Barbara Rose. William Snr was also a carpenter, and all of his sons followed him into the trade. It is unknown why William relocated to Kegworth, however we know that he was living there

On 14 June 1797 William married Anne Parker in Ashby Foville, Leicestershire. Anne was the daughter of ? and ?.

After their marriage William an Ann live in Barsby Leicestershire, 25km from his place of birth in Loughborough.

In 1 March 1800 at the age of 30 William takes on an Apprentice - William Smith.

William and Anne had at ten children :

Williams wife Ann passes away in late May 1827 and is buried on 1 June 1827. In 1844 his son William passes away, and Williams children - Mary Ann, William and Edward - move from London to live with their grandfather.

  • 27 Mar 1798 - he is recorded as the owner and occupier of property in Barsby with Land Tax Exemption assessed at £2 7s 8d

  • 1830 - he is recorded in the Poll Books as the Freeholders of House and Land in Barsby with his occupation as carpenter and he is the occupant

  • 1832 - he is recorded in the Poll Books as the Freeholders of House and Land in Barsby (there is notation of a John Barrett as tenant)

  • 1841 - he is aged 70 and living the Parish of Barsby (with no address recorded) where his occupation is recorded as a carpenter. His children Mary (40); Sarah (25) and Richard (22) who is also a carpenter.

  • 1841 - he is recorded in the Poll Books as the Freeholders of Land and Cottage and Land in Barsby (where he is noted as the occupier)

  • 1851 - he is noted as being 81 and living in the Parish of Barsby (again with no address recorded). His occupation is recorded as a farmer with 9 acres of his own land. Living with him are his children - Mary (52) a school mistress, Anne (42) a housekeeper, Richard (33) a Carpenter - and his grandchildren (the children of his deceased son William) - Mary Ann (16) Domestic Duties, William (12) Scholar, Edward (8) Scholar

Willam passes away in November 1853 and was buried at Barsby on 15 November 1853
