Current research identifies our line of the McDermotts as originating in Kilmacaran, Knockbride in Co Cavan, Ireland. The earliest known member of our McDermott line is Phillip McDermott. Phillip's son Patrick McDermott ends up in Dundee Angus in the mid 1800s before emigrating to Australia with his wife Bridget Kettle in 1853.
