Historically it has been identified that the Hayes family originated from the Bolton area of Lancashire. 

Current research identifies the progenitor of our line of the Hayes family as being James Heyes. He is first documented on in Ainsworth, Lancashire where the family held - the now grade II listed property - Dearden Fold Farm. It is his 3G granddaughter Mary Hayes who marries David Yates and emigrates to Australia in 1883
