James Hardie (1770 - 1808)

James was the ninth child of Joseph Hardie & Marion Messar. He was born in 1770 in Clackmannan Parish, Clackmannan.

James was married on 14 May 1786 to Mary Cockburn, in a marriage recorded in Clackmannan parish. He would have only been 16 years old at the time.

James was the first member of the Hardie Clan to depart Scotland for new lands. He immigrated to the USA, residing in New York where he died without heirs in 1808.

When John Hardie of Thornhill emigrated to the USA in 1817 he stayed in New York with James widow, who had married a Mr Brackett after James death.
