John Hardie 1665
John Hardie (1665 - ?)
John Hardie was born in 1665 in Alloa, Clackmannan to Robert Hardie and Marion Campbell. He was christened on 22 February 1665.
Records relating to John are rather ambiguous, however it appears that John first married Margaret Dewar on 10 June 1687 in Clackmannan Parish, Clackmannan. John Hardie and Margaret Dewar had 3 children:
- James Hardie - born 1688. Baptised 8 June 1688, Clackmannan, Clackmannan
- Margaret Hardie - born 1692. Baptised 24 Apr 1692, Alloa, Clackmannan
- Isobel Hardie - born 1694. Baptised 18 May 1694, Tillicountry, Clackmannan (potentially died young)
The family appeared to have moved through the Clackmannan country, with each child baptised in a different Parish.
There is no information available about the end of their marriage, but it is assumed that Margaret Dewar Hardie died sometime between 1694 and 1698 because on 22 January 1698 John Hardie married Isobell Ferguson in St. Ninians Parish, Stirling. John Hardie and Isobell Ferguson had 8 children:
- Mary Hardie - born 1701. Baptised 21 September 1701
- Francis Hardie - born 1702. Baptised 20 December 1702. Married Helen Fotheringham on 9 December 1728 in Dalkeith, Midlothian.
- Jean Hardie - born 1704. Baptised 1 October 1704. Married Alexander Short on 18 April 1735 in Clackmannan County, Clackmannan
- Robert Hardie - born 1706. Baptised 11 August 1706
- Grizal Hardie - born 1708. Baptised 19 September 1708
- Isobell Hardie - born 1710. Baptised 31 December 1710
- Christian Hardie - born abt 1712
- Joseph Hardie - born 1714. Baptised 23 November 1714.
The family had obviously settled after John & Isobells marriage, with all children baptised in Clackmannan Parish, Clackmannan.
Despite extensive research, death records or Monument Inscription (ie Cemetary Records) have been unable to be identified for Margaret, Isobell or John)
