Henry Pendlebury (1747 - 1828)

Henry Pendlebury was born in 1747 in Blackrod near Westhoughton. He was the sixth son and ninth child of Ralph Pendlebury and Margaret LeylandAlthough his father inherited Whittles Farm in Westhoughton, it is unknown when the family relocated to Blackrod, however the most likely dates are 1729, 1743 or 1747.

Then in 1755, when he was 8 years old, his father passed away. In March 1758, following the death of his uncles - two years later in 1757 the family inherited a fifth of the proceeds of the sale of the families estates. His brother Roger and Gerard acted on the families behalf in the transfer of the estate to his uncle Gerard Pendlebury. The family are noted as still living in Blackrod at that time.

Indentures of Lease and Release of these respective dates the latter made between Ann Hindley  Mary Pendlebury  Roger Pendlebury and Gerard Pendlebury of Blackroad of the one part and Gerard Pendlebury of Lostock of the other part being a conveyance of the shares of the parties of the 1st part in a messuage and land called the Croft the two Marled Closes the Collier Meadow the New Marled the Moss and the 3 Crofts containing 11 acres to the said Gerard Pendlebury

On 2 Feb 1773 he married Mary Higson at the Deane parish church - St Mary the Virgin - in Rumworth. Margaret was the daughter of Giles Higson and Sarah Lythgoe

Henry and Mary had 8 children (seven boys and one girl) all of whom lived to adulthood

  • Thomas Pendlebury Born 1789 ; Died 1845
  • Mary Pendlebury Born 1791 Married James Higson ; Died 1865

The family lived in Over Hulton, and in 1792 after the death of Mary's father they inherited the Round Thorn farm.

There is note of him in the 1798 and 1799 Land Tax Redemption records

He died in February 1828 and was buried at ?

His will passed probate in June 1828
