James Burgess 1771 - 1818

James Burgess (1711 - 1818)

James Burgess was born in 1771 in All Cannings, Wiltshire. He was christened on 15 December 1771. James was the fourth child and third son of Michael Burgess and Martha Weston. 

James married Mary Mead on 12 November 1795 at St Mary's Marketing Lavington. Mary was the daughter of Hugh Mead and Martha Browse.

James and Mary had 8 children - five sons and three daughters - at least five of whom lived to adulthood:

• John Burgess Born 1796. Married Mary Cotterell 1820. Died 1871 
• Elizabeth Burgess Born 1798. 
• James Burgess Born 1800. Died 1802 - Died as infant
• Sarah Burgess Born 1803. Married John Pincheon 1825. Died ?
• James Burgess Born 1805. Married Eleanor Pincheon 1826. Died 1867.  
• Harriet Burgess Born 1807. Married James Stantial 1842. Died 1862
• Jacob Burgess Born 1810. Died 1814 - Died as an infant
• Jacob Burgess Born 1817. Married (1) Sarah Laney 1842 (2) Sarah Hopkins 1869. Died 1894

Based on the birth record of their children, James and Mary lived in Market Lavington – where James worked as a Malster 

James died in 1818
