Ann Hardie was born on 24 Mar 1848 at the families property in Marklemain, Prestonkirk, East Lothian, she was christened in the same parish on 16 Apr 1848. She was the eighth, and youngest child of David Hardie and Christian Black.
Ann grew up at Marklemains, and was only 8 when her father died in 1856. Little is known of Ann between the time of her fathers death in 1856 and her marriage twenty years later, however it is most likely that she continued to live with her mother Christian at Marklemains.

Ann Starkey was born on 16 November 1809 in Kegworth, Leicester, where she was subsequently baptised on 1 December. She was the third child of William Starkey and Sarah Marriot.
On 23 Feb 1826 Ann - at the tender age of 17 - married William Mansfield in Kegworth. We do not have baptismal or parent information for William however there are Mansfields who are Carpenters from Loughborough going back several generations, these are likely candidates.. William Mansfield and Ann had gained a formal license from Thomas Stevenson on 21 Feb 1826. This was necessary because Ann was under 21 and meant that the reading of Banns was not necessary. The marriage was witnessed by her father William Starkey and her sister Elizabeth Newham.

Many family history research interchange this Charles with his cousin - son of John Pincheon and Ann Watts who married Betty Lanham in 1792, or treat them as the same person.

Kilmuckridge (also known as The Ford and spelt Cill Mhucraise in Gaelic), is located on the Eastern Coast of Ireland, close to the Irish Sea and 22 km south of Gorey in Wexford. The catholic church was built in 1796 and the Church of Ireland in 1815. The people of Kilmuckridge played a prominent part in the 1798 rising.

David Hardie was born on 8 April 1850. He was the ninth child and youngest son of James Hardie and Sarah Bladworth.
It is thought that his brother Richard convinced him to migrate to America after he returned home from New Orleans in 1879. David was living with his mother, two sisters and his brother James at11 Alva St, Edinburgh St Cuthberts in Edinburgh in March 1881 when the census was taken. At the time he was working as a wine broker most likely in his father business which had been left to his brother John.

Doreen Bain was born in the family home at ? st Ipswich, Queensland on 18 May 1921. She was the second child and eldest daughter of James Bashford Bain and Eva Mary Yates
Doreen's childhood and teenage years were spent in Ipswich with her family, they were very close, and Doreen had a special bond with her mother. Her mother Eva was religious, and at times a demanding woman, she expected her girls to be ladies. The family was what we would consider 'comfortable', with James working as a Railway Clerk in Ipswich whilst Eva took in work as a tailoress supplementing the families income. Their ? Street house was a medium sized timber dwelling on a 66 foot frontage block.

OBITUARY.MRS. JAMES BAIN.
There passed away, in the early hours of yesterday morning, in the person of Mrs. James Bain, of Martin-street,. an old and well-known resident of Ipswich. On August 19, of the present year. She had lived in Queensland for half-a-century, during which time she had gained the respect, and, in many cases, the close friendship, of a great number of people in the city and district. Mrs. Bain arrived in Australia in 1864, one of her shipmates being Mr. Jas. Chapman, the well-known draper, of Brisbane, who has also lived in the State for 5 years. She was born in Dundee,Scotland, and with her husband and one child, set sail for Australia on the Earl Russell, arriving here in 1864. After living for some months a few miles out of Ipswich, she and her husband (the late Mr. James Bain), took up their residence in this town, where Mr. Bain took over the management of the baths. Some five or six years later, he opened a cordial manufactory in Martin-street, and kept the business going until his death, 22 years ago, since which time, the late Mrs. Bain lived a retired life. Although ailing for some months, the end came rather suddenly, as the result of a attack ofgastritis, of only six days' duration.She leaves three daughters and two sons, namely - Mrs. F. F. Gehrmann of Brusbane ; Mrs. A. Stewart,and Miss E. M. Bain (both of Ipswich) ; Mr. R.G. C. Bain, also of Ipswich ; and Mr. J. C. Bain of Sydney, the last mentioned being well-known as a theatrical manager.Mrs. Bain was 76 years of age at the time of her death, and had been closely connected with the Presbyterian Church, since her arrival inthe country.

Little is known of Euphemias life between 1861 and 1879. Euphemia emigrated to Australia with the family aboard the Oaklands which arrived in Adelaide, South Australia on 23 September 1879. Immigration records give her age at the time as 17.

Eva Mary Yates was born at Railway St, Booval on 4 November 1895. She was the ninth child and youngest daughter of David Yates and Mary Hayes.
Eva went to Newton State School, and showed domestic skills early. In 1906 where she won first place in the Juvenile category at the Ipswich Show for her sewing ability (Best Muslin Sampler). After finishing school she became a tailoress - as noted in the 1917 Electoral Role.

Little is known about the families movements during the period from 1871 to 1879. In 1879 George emigrated to Australia with the rest of the family (minus Christina and William). They travelled aboard the Oakland, which arrived in Adelaide, South Australia on 23 September 1879. Immigration records give his age at the time as 7.

In 1882 she married John Crofton Jessop at St Johns Church of England, Camden, NSW. John was the second child and eldest son of John Jessop and Sarah Ann Burgess of Cox's River in Burragorang Valley. The Jessops and the Shoobridges were neighbours in the valley and the children had known each other since birth, there are a number of intermarriages between the family

Helen Hardie was born on 1 December 1802 and was christened on 5 December 1802 in Saline, Fife. She was the tenth child and youngest daughter of John Hardie and Isabella Cousin. All evidence indicates that she grew up the pet of her brothers and sisters.
On 3 Jul 1824, against the wishes - and most likley without the permission - of her father, she married William Strang/Strong Spence in Saline, Fife. William was the second child and eldest son of John Spence and Agnes Strang/Strong. The Spences had seven other children - Agnes, David, Margaret, Edward, Jean, Christian and Henry He was three years younger than Helen, having been born on 4 Oct 1805 in Torryburn, Dumferline, Fife.

Some time before 1813 she was living in Tollbooth Church Parish in Edinburgh. It was here on 12 March 1813 she married John Sands. John is the fourth child and eldest son of David Sands and Margaret Rutherford. He was born in Orwell, Kinross in 1780, where he was christened on 2 Apr 1780.

James Stoddard was born around 1767 most likely in Newbattle, Midlothian. He is identified as one of eight known children of John Stoddard and Margaret Bowman. Unfortunately we have been unable to find baptismal records for 6 of those children - not including James at the point.

Jane Bygrave was born May Day Hill Plantation, Manchester Co. Jamaica. She was a slave born to Plantation Owner and Richard Bygrave Esq and -based on her marriage certificate to Thomas Walker her mother is - Sarah Thomas (nb this is erroneously recorded as Eliza Jane Ham on Janes death certificate). It is unknown her mother was a plantation slave or a mistress, but given there is no documentation of her birth, it is most likely she was born a slave. There is record in plantation baptismal records of the baptism of slave child -aged 1 - in 1826. However her emigration record put her birth around 1829, and her 1858 marriage puts her birth at 1835 and the 1862 birth putting her birth around 1833. Richard died in Dec 1825, so she has to have been born in August/September 1826 at the very latest.

Janet Stoddart (also known as Jessie) was born on 29 September 1829 in Macmerry Gladsmuir to Christina Smith and David Bowman Stoddart. We are unable to find baptismal records for Janet, nor can we find any references in Kirk Session, however there are Sheriff Court Paternity Case Records - one in 1830 and one in 1834 between Christian Smith of Macmerry and David Stoddart/Stodhart, Collier, Blindwells, the child is not named in these documents, and subsequent marriage and census records her age would imply that her DOB is 1831, but we believe that the 1829 date is correct. Interestingly on Janets marriage certificate her father is recorded as David Stoddart (overseer of mines), but on her death certificate it is John Stoddart.

John Bashford was born in 1760 to Josiah Bashford and Sarah Boniface. He was baptised - along with twin brother Josiah - on 21 September 1760 at New Shoreham in Sussex.
John married Jane Baker on May 13 1788 at Broadwater by Worthing, Sussex. Jane was living in Broadwater at the time of her marriage, but we have not identified her parentage at this point. John is noted as being of West Tarring, and the marriage is witnessed by Elizabeth Paine and Christian Piper

Until he was 19 John lived with his parents in Rolvenden Kent, most likely at Rollinson Farm. Whilst he was in Kent, he met and became engaged to Sophia Muriel Hinds. Sophia Muriel was the daughter of John Hinds and Sophia Battam. John and Sophia were both locals of Rolvenden, living at The Layne in Rolvenden at the time of the 1841 census.

John Jessup was born in Cratfield in 1793, the sixth child and third son of Charles Jessop and Elizabeth Bedingfield. He was christened on 13 December 1795 at the St Mary's Church in Cratfield.
On 11 April 1812 - during the peak of the Napoleonic wars - John enlisted in the army. He joined in the 68th Light Foot Regiment. He was a reinforcement and likely joined the regiment at ?. On 28th March 1814 at La Reole in France he was wounded - with a bullet in the groin that was not extracted. He was then sent to Kilmainham War Hospital in Belfast where he was pensioned out on 14 Dec 1814 after serving a total of 1 year 247 days. His He was described as being a 21 yo labourer who was 5'8" tall with brown hair, grey eyes and a fresh complexion.

Marion was born in 1725 - the sixth child and third daughter of William Messar/Mercer (b. abt 1682 - ?) and Christian Rae/Roe (b. abt 1685 - ?). She was christened on 30 October 1725. Her last name was also spelt Mercer or Mesar. William & Christian Messar also resided in Clackmannan, where they produced 7 children between 1711 and 1728 (John, Francis, Jean, James, Janet, Margaret, Robert, Marion and Mary).

Joseph Kitching was born between 1818 and 1822 to Robert Kitching (the most likely record for this is Mar 8 1818, however his mother is not noted on the record, nor is she with the family at the 1841 census).
In the 1841 census he is noted as living with his father, Robert, at Barretts Yard, Lady Lane, Leeds and is is working as an apprentice shoemaker. The census puts his DOB at approximately 1822 (that said, there are notorious inaccuracies in the 1841 census, they rounded to the nearest 5 or 0 number).

Louisa Jane Davis was apparently born on 4 December 1865 in Toowoomba (there is no record of her birth, and this information is taken from an adult christening). She was one of four children of Thomas Davis and Jane Bygrave. Family oral history had identified Louisa is being part Maori, however we now know that her non anglo heritage was in fact Jamaican through her mother Jane.

When Margaret was around 5 the family relocated from Waverley in Sydney to the Tweed Valley. Her father worked as a cane cutter for a number of years before becoming a dairy farmer at Dunbible Creek near Murwillumbah.

Moore Carfrae Cockburn was born in Redheugh, Cockpen, Midlothian about 1787. Current research indicates that he was one of two know children of Alexander Cockburn and Ann Watson (AKA Marian Swantson). His only known sibling is John Cockburn, born about 1783.
He was lived in Midlothian for most of his life, and some time around 1819 he married Christian Duncan Anderson, most likely in Duddingston.

In modern Gaelic, Patrick takes one of several forms: Pádruig, Páruig, Para, and Pádair or Pátair. This last form - Pátair - that leads to confusion with the English Peter, and the two names were often treated as interchangeably in the 18th and 19th centuries, especially for irish or scottish families relocating. Its also common for Irish immigrant to have the Mc added to their name upon immigration.
